Afternoon Classics - Wednesday March 4, 2009

Today's big event is the complete Threepenny Opera. As a milestone in music theater is had no peer in the 20th Century. After that there will be some time with Heitor Villa-Lobos. First: Boccherini - Cello Concerto No. 7 in G, G480 with Wouter Moller at the cello and Hans-Linde Martin conducting the Linde Consort.
Gay - The Beggars Opera, Overture and first two airs, Denis Stevens conducting the Accedemia Monteverdiana performing.
Weill/Brecht - The Threepenny Opera (complete) cast and chorus under the baton of John Mauceri as well as the RIAS Berlin Sinfonietta.
Villa-Lobos: Xango (St. Hieronymus) with Robert Bonfiglio on the harmonica and Gerard Schwarz conducting the New York Chamber Symphony.
  ---   Symphony No. 4 "Victoria" with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela conducted by Enrique Arturo Diemke.
  --- String Quartet No. 15 (1954), The Quarteto Latinoamericano
  --- The Harmonica Concerto, Robert Bonfiglio on the harmonica, Gerard Schwarz conducting the New York Chamber Symphony.
  ---   Bacchanias Brasileiras No. 5, Renee Fleming - soprano, Michael Tilson Thomas conducting the New World Symphony.
