A Little Bit of Broadway

It just felt like a day to play a classic – and there aren’t many that are more of a classic than Rodgers and Hammerstein’s last musical together. The romantized story of the Von Trapp Family is familiar to almost everyone – if only from watching repeated showings of the film on TV. We listened to the 1998 Broadway revival cast, with Rebecca Luker, Patti Cohenour, Michael Silberry and Fred Applegate.

If this one isn’t to your liking,
* there is a 1987 studio cast recording with Frederic von Stade and Kakan Hagegard,
* a 2006 London revival with Connie Fisher and Lesley Garrett,
* plus the original 1959 cast with Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel and,
* of course, the 1965 movie with Julie Andrews.
