A Little Bit of Broadway

3/15/2009
Swing!
Broadway keeps trying out new ways to bring people into the seats. Around the turn of the decade (century, millennium) it seemed like dance dominated shows were the next big thing. That didn’t happen, but one of the better shows that came out of that time is an homage to the Big Band era, Swing!. Filled with the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and others, this musical review combines the music with the dances of the era to create a high energy evening of dance.

The original cast record featured Laura Benanti, Ann Hampton Callaway and Everett Bradley and was directed and choreographed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett. Nominated for 7 Tonys, it lost best musical to Contact, another totally dancing show.
