Afternoon Classics, Tuesday, April 14, 2009

On this beautiful spring day (really) the music will reflect, somewhat, the fact that the Alaska Folk Festival is in full swing here in Juneau. So there will be a little music reflecting that throughout the program.
To begin:
Boccherini: Oboe Quintet in G, Op. 45, No. 1, Sarah Francis on the Oboe, the Allegri String Quartet accompanying.
Brahms: Variations on a Theme of Haydn, Yoel Levi and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Dvorak: Bagatelles for 2 violins, cello and harmonium, Op. 47, Howard Davis & Peter Pople - violins, David Smith - cello, Virginia Black harmonium.
Shostakovich: Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Paavo Jarvi and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. This is a new release from Telarc.
Dexter: Siciliano, Ernest Tomlinson & the RTE Concert Orchestra
Moravec: Cool Fire, members of the Bridgehampton Chamber Ensemble.
Duarte: Joan Baez Suite, Sharon Isbin - guitar.
Tveitt: Concerto No. 2 for Hardanger fiddle, Op. 252, Arve Moen Bergset - fiddle, Ole Kristian Ruud, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
Milhaud: Concerto for Harp, Op. 323, Frederique Cambreling - harp, Kent Nagano, Orchestre de L'Opera de Lyon.
Dvorak: Sonatina, Op. 100, Bohuslav Matousek - violin, Petr Ademec - piano.
