Afternoon Classics - Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Today we will celebrate the birthday of Edvard Grieg, well it was Monday but I wasn't here to light the candles. First of all, to sort of celebrate the performance of the Juneau Symphony on Saturday Night (their "pops" ), we will begin with the Juneau Symphony playing Mozart.
Mozart: Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K 183, the "Little G Minor" Kyle Wiley Pickett conducting the Juneau Symphony Orchestra.
Grieg: Violin sonata No. 3 in C minor, Op. 45, Denes Zsigmondy and Anneliese Nissen.
Album Leaves, Op 29, Leif Ove Andsnes at the piano.
Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, Leif Ove Andsnes at the piano and Dimitri Kitayenko conducting the Bergen Philharmonic.
Holberg Suite, Op. 40, Conrad van Alphen conducting the Rotterdam Chamber Orchestra.
Symphonic Dance No. 1, Op. 64, Raymond Leppard and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Brahms: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, No. 2, in B flat major, Emil Gilels at the piano and Eugen Jochum conducting the Berlin Philharmonic.
Pilafian: Relentless Grooves II: Armenia, Tom McCaslin - tuba.
Nagao: Lovers on the Celestial Sphere, Kenneth Tse and Nobuya Sugawa on the saxophones and Kazuo Murakami at the piano.
Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46, Raymond Leppard conducting the English Chamber Orchestra.
