A Little Bit of Broadway

Sleeping Beauty Wakes
(2007)

GrooveLily is a theatrical power-pop trio consisting of Valerie Vigoda, Brendan Milburn, and Gene Lewin. They call themselves “just your typical violin/piano/drums theatrical power trio.” After the success of their reimagining of Hans Christians Anderson’s The Little Match GirlStriking TwelveDeaf West Theater asked them to do a fairy tale for them. Since Valerie and Brendan were new parents, they choose Sleeping Beauty. And so, Sleeping Beauty Wakes, set in a sleep disorder clinic, was born.

The show went on in the spring of 2007 in Los Angeles, and was a hit at Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre. The show won the Ovation Award for World Premiere Musical.
