Afternoon Classics - Wednesday, Feb 3, 2010

Today is the 201st birthday of Felix Mendelssohn. So here are some familiar pieces and some not so familiar:

The Hebrides Overture (Fingal's Cave), Op. 26 by Felix Mendelssohn, Claudio Abbado London Symphony Orchestra as are all the following:
Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66 Performed by The Guarneri Trio
Rondo capriccioso, Op. 14 played by Jean-Yves Thibaudet - piano
Octet in E flat Major, Op. 20 performed by the Cleveland Quartet and the Meliora Quartet
Symphony No. XII for string orchestra , Patrick Strub conducting the Kammerorchester Arcata Stuttgart
Piano Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 40 with Jean-Yves Thibaudet - piano and Herbert Blomstedt conducting the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig
Symphony No. 4 in A, Op. 90, "Italian" with Claudio Abbado and the London Symphony Orchestra
Concerto for Violin & Orchestra in E minor, Op.64 performed by Anne-Sophie Mutter - violin with Herbert von Karajan conducting the Berlin Philharmonic
A Midsummer Night's Dream, Op. 21 & 61 (as much as will fit); Jeffrey Tate and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
and that is our mostly Mendelssohn program!
