Today is yet another Broadway show (actually, in this case, West End) that started out life as a film. And what a film. Filled with the glorious music of Irving Berlin, and featuring the incredible dancing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat is considered one of the best, if not the best of the Astaire and Rogers films. It was the second largest grossing film worldwide in 1935, and is filled with classic songs that are still sung today. In fact, I would be willing to bet that someone in Barney McClure’s Swinging in the Rain workshop this week will sing the music of Irving Berlin.
It’s currently playing on the West End, so if you are in London, take the opportunity to see it. And we’ll hope it crosses the big pond soon!
Well, what else should we fill the rest of the time but Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers?! Here’s music from various of their film collaborations.
