A Little Bit of Broadway

Singin' in the Rain
9/23/2012

The absolutely best musical film ever is the 1952 musical film Singin’ in the Rain. Filled with great music as silent film stars deal with the advent of the talkies, the plot is fun, the acting and singing great, and it just is the best way I know of spending time in front of a tv screen (I’d love it see it on the full screen!).

In 1982 Tommy Steele put together a stage version of the show, which started on the West End and then moved to Broadway. We are listening this afternoon to the 2012 London revival cast. It’s currently playing at the Palace Theatre, so if you are in London, take the opportunity to go!

In 1986 Marvin Hamlisch and Howard Ashman took the 1975 beauty pageant spoof Smile and a musical out of it. it flopped, but there some great music in it. Here are two numbers from the show –the title cut, and Disneyland.
