“If it’s good enough for Shakespeare…” Yes indeed, today’s musical is based on Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors tells the tale of 2 sets of identical twins, separated in childhood. One set of twins gets raises is Ephesus. The other gets raises in Syracuse. When the pair from Syracuse come to Ephesus, it’s a delightful time of mistaken identity, with the wonderful music of Richard Rodgers and witty lyrics of Lorenz Hart.

We are listening to the 1997 City Center Encores recording, with Malcolm Gets and Michael McGrath as the boys from Ephesus, and Mario Cantone and Davis Gaines as the boys from Syracuse.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

We are continuing our review of great film musicals (whether stage adaptations or film musical) that are fun to watch with younger kids. Today is the 1971 Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a musical version of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. With great music, a moral lesson that’s not too heavy and Oompa Loompas, what better way than to spend time with the kids!

One of my favorite Newley/Bricusse shows is the 1963 Tony Award winning Stop the World - I Want to Get Off -- and who better to sing Little Chap than Sammy Davis, Jr. Here's some songs from the show.
