With Sue B
Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris
A musical that breaks boundaries of form...more than a revue or cabaret, this show is really a one- musical with a cast of four, evealing teh opinions, insights, wit, and world view of Beliguim-born creator Jacques Brel. The songs are often described as 22-26 (depending on the production) one-act plays, that are hybrids of 18th and 19th century art songs coupled with 1960's protest songs. The songs speak of Brel's thoughts about the world and about being alive, specifically about the struggle to survive in our modern world. The central theme of the show is that no matter how overwhelming life can get--and it can get really overwhelming--we have a strength and a survival instinct that gets us through even the worst of it. That strenth and instince is optimism and love. After exploring themes of war and death, drugs, family, money, love and marriage, and the relentlessness of time, Brel ends with the powerfu "If We Only Have Love"...not romanticlove, or even the love of family and friends, but tolerance, respect, the love of the human race. This is a show about struggle, deep personal struggle and collective social struggle...and we need to know we are not alone in that struggle. Others have shared that struggle, and just as they have survived, so will we. It is a shared humanity that reassures us in our darkest times that we are not alone. (Notes from Scott Miller, Rebels with Applause: Broadways' Ground Breaking Musicals, 2001)
OCR 1975 with Elly Stone, Mort Shuman, Shawn Elliot and Alice Whitfiled

A Little Bit of Broadway
Evita
2012 Revival
In its first revival since Evita debuted on Broadway in 1979, the show brought forth more Argentinian sounds (there is more accordion in the orchestra). Reception was mixed, but the revival cast recording still tells the story of a young girl’s rise from poverty to the First Lady of Argentina.
Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics: Tim Rice
Che: Ricky Martin
Eva: Elena Roger
Peron: Michael Cerveris
